In addition to the uniform, you'll need some equipment to start umpiring.

To work behind the plate a mask, chest protector, cup for male umpires, and shin guards are needed. You'll also need foot protection. Special plate shoes are recommended for teenage and older players, and for younger players, it's possible to use shinguards with extended metatarsal guards.
