My fellow Umpires: Maybe I should have titled this article "NEVER QUIT!. I hated to have learned that one of my fellow umpires quit the association only because he was heckled and bashed by some coaches, parents and espectators. I'd like to share this words with all of you.
Let's face it, umpires have always been subject to criticism. Who can figure out why an umpire gets booed when he calls a foul ball correctly and they applaud the starting pitcher when he is taken out of the game. Bashing officials is really a mechanism to remove any blame or responsibility from the team for which one is rooting. We Umpires, have to learn to ignore heckles and learn to laugh at the jokes. It's good for the soul! It is fascinating to ponder what gets us involved in umpiring and keep us there. It is simply that we like it and can do it, but never, never, despite adversity, "NEVER, NEVER QUIT"

I am new to

I am new to this organization, but have been umpiring for 32+ years.  I found that I heard the most heckling and comments from the fans and the coaches in the Little League program where I was a FREE umpire.  In my second year, I was calling LL (free), Babe Ruth (for $20.00), and a program called Dixie Majors (for $15.00). I heard very little, except the usual groans when a play was called against their team, in the paid games, but got a lot of guff at the free games.  I called the same.  I am still active in LL (still free), and multiple other programs..  I like the organization of this site, and the people who I have read in the forums while I lurked before I decided to join.  Good discussions and good training and support.  Thanks.
