after a batter hits a single the PU identifies the bat that was used as an illigal bat.   The batter is called out -  however is there any penalty to the manager for allowing the use of the bat ?

The rule only specifies one

The rule only specifies one penalty -- the batter is out. However, if the coach knew the bat was illegal and instructed his player to use it anyway, then you might have a case for an ejection. The case I'm thinking about here is you remove a bat mid-game and the coach has a player use it a second time.

You'd better be very certain the coach is trying to pull one over on you, though. You wouldn't want to dump a coach just because an illegal bat was stored too close to the bat rack and was picked up by mistake.
