As a long time baseball coach, but brand new umpire, I have to say that I'm very impressed with how RCOA and NCOA are working to develop and train umpires. I know for a fact that most baseball coaches, high school, travel team, LL and all the other types of coaches, have no idea how much time and effort is being put into developing more qualified and skilled umpires. I've been surprised at the amount of classes, clinics and training opportunties that have been presented, and in talking with a few HS coaches, am aware that they have no idea what is going on in an effort to provide them with better officials for their games. Most of the guys I've spoken with are very surprised when I tell them what is going on.

I just want to post this to say that the word needs to get out to the coaching community about this development program, as I think it would benefit the experience many umpires have in dealing with these coaches as we all head into baseball season. I know that participating has given me a new perspective, taught me a lot, and know it'll ultimately make me a better baseball coach when high school is over and summer ball begins. I'm sure I'm not the only rookie who feels this way, and on behalf of all, want to say "Thank You" for the opportunity.

Umpire training and development

Well said, Mr. Sozzi, well said. I for one, have learned so much about umpiring in the last four years since I joined NCOA/RCOA than I have in my previous 14. The classes, the clinics, the teaching, and the effort put out by all the instructors to develop more skilled umpires, is something I am always greatful for, and am glad that you as a "rookie" participating in this training will benefit a great deal. I have a good feeling going into the new High School Baseball season, many coaches will be more appreciative of this effort and will realize when they see us come on the field, we are skilled umpires and wil give them our very best. Have a great season.

I'll second Dan's

I'll second Dan's assessment. I had no idea of the preparation, and the quality of the instruction that is presented. It's a very professional organization that I've joined, and I'm grateful for the dedication of the trainers as they ply their knowledge to us in the first few rungs of umpiring.

Thank you to all of the instructors that participated on Saturday. I was very impressed, and happy that I attended.
