Thanks for the Great Weekend ...
Swanny:
WOW ... What a great weekend!!! We were all so impressed with your efforts. Just wanted to thank you all for your clinic attendance.
Many of you commented that there was sooooo much more to umpiring than you thought. There was also so much more material presented than you could possibly remember. Always bring a note pad and pen and take good notes.
Now, while the material is still fresh in your mind. Plan a good long period of time and start reviewing your memories, notes taken and some of the mechanics manuals relating to your clinic experience.
There was too much material to remember completely. You probably remember bits and pieces of everything. Now is the time to go in and fill the gaps in the instruction you may have. This will maximize the benefits of your learning experience.
Plan time to review the following two (2) references on this site:
90 ft mechanics manual:
http://sacumpires.com/2008/07/15/preview-new-training-material-two-umpir...
60 ft mechanics manual:
http://sacumpires.com/2008/04/27/llb-60ft-diamond-mechanics-manual
Reviewing material will make your learning experience more complete. Tie as many of the loose ends together as possible before they float from your memory like untethered helium balloons.
Get out and practice at any remaining fall scrimmages available before the weather changes and the holidays become our priorities. Several scrimmages are usually posted on SacUmpire.com.
Remember, no one expects you to learn it all the first time through. You can come to these training events as many times as you like.
You can use this clinic in many different ways as well:
1. Exposure: Learning about new techniques & concepts
2. Practice: Get the basic feel of the skill or coverage
3. Movement: Perform movement - earlier, faster, better - more efficiently, aggressively, productively ...
4. Anticipate: Learn to read field action and anticipate action better
5. Hone Skills: Do techniques & mechanics under supervision for feedback on performance
6. Recent Changes: Learning about recent changes to mechanics or coverages
7. Social: Sometimes it's just good to get together and talk about umpiring with people who want to see you excel at your skills and go as far as you can with this.
Several rules clinics will be available between late January and Early March. And, another Mechanics clinic will be hosted in mid-February.
Keep an eye on SacUmpires.com for future events coming your way ...
Thanks ... Swanny
Fall 2008 LL Clinic
As always, the instruction and good times were had by all. This is my 5th clinic
(including presidents day) put on by all of these same instructors and I have always come away with greater knowalege and respect for what we do as umpires. The fun factor and the one on one evaluations with the seasoned umpires are unmatched, especially for the cost!!! I plan on attending any and all future clinics along with bringing with me all within my league (umpires & coaches)that would like to learn more about the game. I am planning on moving up from the 60ft field to the 90ft field and would like some assistance (Working with/evaluation of another experienced umpire). Thanks again for such a wonderful weekend.
